The Love Guru

For some unknown reason, my friends have always come to me first when needing relationship advice. This happened again today, and I realized that some of my advice contradicts itself.

There's the ancient advice that when in a relationship, the couple needs to compromise. I completely and totally agree with this. You give, you take. If the person is worth keeping, then you should be able to give up something to show how much they mean to you.

But of course, there's the other ancient advice that you shouldn't have to change for anyone. This is where it gets tricky. I agree that a person should love you for you. You shouldn't have to look a certain way or do certain things so the person stays with you. But if you always did what you wanted, there would never be any compromise, and I know a relationship without compromise can't work either.

So where do you draw the line? Do you stay how you are and say "If you love me, this is how it's gonna be?" or do you each give in a little? Do you change them a bit, or do you accept the flaw? Such a dilemma. Share some thoughts :]

I see the contradiction. The solution I see is that compromise should always be made, ONLY IF it doesnt change who you are fundamentally. Be yourself, but learn to give in here and there.

But hey, now I know who to come to when Sarah is driving me crazy! lol

Yeah, that's a really good solution. Now it's just convincing people to give in here and there that's gonna be the problem :P

And anytime you need advice, I'm here. Not guaranteeing that it will always be good advice, but I can always try, lol. :]
